Purpose
WHAT IS THE AFRICA YOU WANT TO SEE?
Electricity access for all. Clean, accessible drinking water. Food security. What does the Africa of the future look like to you and your community?
WE WANT YOU TO TELL US.
It’s a fact that the changing climate in Africa is having a negative effect on our people. Africa contributes the least to global warming, but our communities are being hit the hardest.
Admitting that climate change has a different social, environmental, economic and public impact in different communities – and fighting to bring equality around climate change to vulnerable communities – is called climate justice.
For climate justice to work, Africa needs a plan. A plan that tells our leaders and our policymakers what our communities need to adjust to the current and future effects of climate change. And what our communities can do to reduce their contribution to climate change.
Africa’s youth is Africa’s future, so creating this plan and making sure your community is represented in that plan, comes down to you.
The WE!ARE movement is here to help you put your demands forward – those climate justice solutions that you want to see adopted in your community.
In this way, WE!ARE will retell the story of climate justice from the perspective of Africa’s youth. Your collective voice will bridge the gap between climate change and inequality, placing vulnerable communities at the centre of Africa’s call for climate justice.
